BP Justice Now! is a non-profit, non-partisan project that seeks justice for victims of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion and its aftermath, and full accountability for the companies that caused the disaster. This includes the responsibility to pay for the full cost of damage this incident has inflicted on communities, businesses and individuals.  BP Justice Now! is a project of the Center for Justice & Democracy, based in New York.

The Deepwater Horizon explosion is the nation’s worst envirtonmental disaster. The explosion itself caused the deaths of 11 workers and injuries for many more. The resulting oil spill and clean up attempts have caused profound ecological damage, untold human health problems and hundreds of billions of dollars in economic losses for the region. Hundreds of thousands of individuals and small businesses have been harmed. Shrimpers. Fishermen. Restaurant Owners and Workers. Hotel Owners and Workers. Property Owners. Entire Tourism Industries. The list goes on.

The companies responsible for this disaster - including BP, Transocean, Halliburton – have engaged in repeated legal maneuvering to evade responsibility for much of what their actions have caused. The $20 billion Gulf Coast Claims Facility, which was set up by law and funded by BP, has been marred by severe problems. Frustration and concern is growing that the claims process is protecting BP instead of the people who were hurt by BP.

BP Justice Now! wants full to ensure justice for those harmed by this disaster and prevent BP and the other companies from dodging responsibility for the damage they have caused. We seek to make sure that BP, Transocean and Halliburton and all responsible companies are held fully accountable. BP Justice Now! is a project of the Center for Justice & Democracy.
